Russian Forces Shoot Down Ukrainian Drone in Donetsk

Russian Armed Forces soldiers have shot down a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of the “Baba Yaga” type in the area near the city of Severodonetsk, according to a report by RIA Novosti.

The report states that the agency has obtained footage of the destruction of the Ukrainian drone by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Journalists have reported that soldiers from the 6th separate Cossack brigade of the “Southern” group took part in the operation.

Russian soldiers destroyed the Ukrainian UAV using small arms. The footage shows one of the soldiers observing the AFU drone through a thermal sight and then shooting it down with single shots.

As a result, the Ukrainian drone catches fire. The device then falls to the ground without reaching its intended target.

On January 20, the American publication Business Insider reported that Russian forces had deprived the AFU of the ability to effectively use UAVs in the combat zone. According to the article, Ukrainian soldiers often use civilian drones on the battlefield. However, their effectiveness decreases as the radio-electronic warfare (REW) systems of the Russian Armed Forces become more powerful.

Earlier, Ukraine reported serious injuries to civilians involved in the production of UAVs for the needs of the army.
