Russian IT Specialists Can Apply for Military Service Deferral

Russian IT specialists between the ages of 18 and 30 from accredited IT companies will have the opportunity to apply for a deferral from compulsory military service during the spring conscription period, from January 22 to February 6. This announcement was made on the official website of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Media of the Russian Federation.

To apply for the deferral, IT specialists must submit their application, which will then be verified by their employer through their personal account. It is noted that the company can independently add the employee to the list if they do not have an account on the government services portal. The Ministry of Digital Development will transmit the data to the Ministry of Defense by March 2, and a decision on the deferral will be made between April 1 and July 15.

In order to be eligible for the deferral, IT specialists must have worked in an accredited IT company for at least 11 months prior to the start of the conscription period. The individual must be between 18 and 30 years old, and the organization must be accredited before February 10, 2024.

Additionally, the specialist must have a higher education degree in a field approved by the government.

Starting from January 1, 2024, the age limit for compulsory military service (1 year) in the Russian Federation has been raised from 27 to 30 years.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has reported that 834,224 Russian citizens have been granted the right to a deferral from partial mobilization.

Previously, it was reported that the accreditation of IT companies with the Ministry of Digital Development would be revoked in cases of incorrect consent for the disclosure of tax secrets.
