Nikki Haley Prepares for One-on-One Battle Against Trump as DeSantis Exits 2024 Race

In an unexpected turn of events, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has dropped out of the 2024 presidential race, leaving Republican candidate Nikki Haley to face off against former President Donald Trump in the upcoming New Hampshire primary. The announcement came as a shock to many, as DeSantis had been gaining momentum in recent weeks. Correspondent Bryan Llenas reports on Haley’s reaction to DeSantis’ exit during her campaign stop in New Hampshire.

“We just heard that Ron DeSantis dropped out of the race. And I want to say to Ron, he ran a great race. He’s been a good governor. And we wish him well,” Haley said, acknowledging DeSantis’ contributions. She then turned her attention to the remaining candidates, referring to herself and Trump as the “one fella and one lady left.” Haley emphasized the importance of choosing between more of the same or something new.

DeSantis, in a video posted to his X account, expressed his support for Trump and criticized Haley as a “repackaged form of warmed-over corporatism.” He stated that he was suspending his campaign as he believed a majority of Republican primary voters wanted to give Trump another chance. Trump, who won the Iowa caucuses by a significant margin, is currently leading in the polls ahead of the New Hampshire primary.

Recent polls show Trump with 55% support among likely primary voters, while Haley trails behind with 36% support and DeSantis with 6% support. However, other polls indicate a closer race between Trump and Haley, with CNN’s poll showing Trump at 50% support and Haley at 39%.

Haley, undeterred by DeSantis’ exit and the poll numbers, continued to rally her supporters in New Hampshire. She outlined her plans to improve education, secure the border, and build a strong America. With only two days left until the primary, Haley vowed to fight until the last second, wishing her fellow female competitor the best.

Trump, on the other hand, expressed his gratitude for DeSantis’ endorsement, calling it an honor. He stated his intention to work together with DeSantis to defeat Joe Biden, whom he labeled as the “worst and most corrupt president in the history of our country.”

As the 2024 campaign trail unfolds, it remains to be seen who will emerge victorious in the Republican primary. Stay tuned for the latest updates, exclusive interviews, and more political content.
