Ukraine’s Armed Forces in Dire Straits, Expert Warns of Impending Collapse without New Mobilization

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) will only last a few months if the country does not declare a new wave of mobilization, according to Colonel Andrey Koshkin, Head of the Department of Political Analysis and Socio-Psychological Processes at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. In an interview with Lenta.ru, Koshkin highlighted the numerous challenges currently faced by Kiev, particularly the lack of weapons and resources that the Ukrainian authorities are unable to overcome.

“These difficulties are currently being handled with very delicate, small, and minor streams, unlike when the US provided a financial downpour, armaments, and military equipment. Without a new mobilization, they will only last a few months, if not less,” emphasized the expert.

Koshkin added that Ukraine is currently scrambling to find funding and ammunition, facing significant financial and logistical strains.

On January 21, the Financial Times published an interview with Kirill Budanov, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense. During the conversation, Budanov drew attention to the noticeable shortage of soldiers within the AFU ranks and deemed the possibility of managing without mobilization as unthinkable.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denied citizens the right to grow weary of the ongoing conflict.
