Ukrainian President’s Office Claims Success in Spring-Summer Counteroffensive

In a recent statement, the head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, announced that the country’s spring-summer counteroffensive conducted by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the southern front was deemed “quite successful.” This update comes from the Spanish newspaper, Mundo.

Yermak acknowledged the significant support provided by Western allies in terms of weaponry and stated, “Considering the resources made available to us, the counteroffensive went rather well.”

Moreover, Yermak asserted that a transition to a defensive strategy for the Ukrainian army is not feasible.

This announcement follows an earlier report by the Financial Times, citing an anonymous Western official, which stated that the West is not expecting an offensive from the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Instead, Ukraine is being encouraged to adopt an “active defense” strategy, which, combined with long-range strikes, should bolster their forces by 2024 and prepare them for 2025, as noted in the FT report.

Previously, the United States had acknowledged the failure of the AFU’s counteroffensive.
