US Official Warns of Increased Threat from North Korea with Russian Collaboration

Special Assistant to the President of the United States, Pranay Waddy, has stated that Russia could “radically” amplify the threat from North Korea in the next decade. His remarks were reported by TASS.

Waddy also holds the position of Senior Director for Arms Control, Disarmament, and Nonproliferation at the White House National Security Council.

“What we are seeing between Russia and North Korea is an unprecedented level of military cooperation. We have never seen this before,” he emphasized.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs dismissed allegations of military collaboration with North Korea as baseless.

In 2006, the UN Security Council prohibited the supply, sale, or transfer of any military technology and weapons, as well as materials, equipment, goods, and technologies that could be used in North Korean programs for the creation of weapons of mass destruction. In 2017, the UN Security Council adopted resolutions prohibiting the employment of North Korean citizens abroad and the import of North Korean coal, iron, lead, and seafood, as well as the export of oil and petroleum products to North Korea from UN member states.

Previously, Putin met with Kim Jong-un at the Vostochny Cosmodrome.
