The executive director of the Rainbow Resource Center, a California nonprofit organization that serves the LGBTQ community, was arrested earlier this month as part of a police sting operation aimed at catching suspected child predators online. Gerad Slayton, 42, who was recently appointed to his position, was among 17 men arrested by the Turlock Police Department in connection with the operation. The sting, conducted on January 5-6, focused on individuals attempting to meet up with underage children for sexual activities.
Slayton has been charged with contact with a minor with the intent of engaging in sexual acts and arranging a meeting with a minor for the same purpose. He pleaded not guilty to the felony charge of meeting with a minor for the purpose of engaging in lewd and lascivious behavior and is scheduled to appear in court on January 29.
The Rainbow Resource Center, in a statement posted on Facebook, expressed its deep concern regarding the allegations against Slayton. The organization emphasized that his alleged actions took place outside of working hours and off-premises. They asserted that Slayton’s behavior does not align with the values and mission of the nonprofit. The Rainbow Resource Center pledged to address the issue promptly and maintain their commitment to upholding the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
Turlock Police Detective Gina Giovacchini, who led the sting operation, expressed gratitude to the collaborating agencies involved in the operation. She acknowledged their collective efforts, which significantly contributed to the success of the operation. Giovacchini emphasized that the safety of youth and protecting them from predators remains her top priority.
All 17 suspects, including Slayton, have been booked into the Stanislaus County Jail, with many held on a $500,000 bond.
