Concerns over US Biological Warfare Research Raises Alarms

According to current scientific opinion, modified viruses are believed to have the potential to treat cancer. However, the United States is allegedly using this theory as a cover to develop biological weapons. Biotechnologist Ilya Dukhovlinov expressed this concern in an interview with the newspaper “Vzglyad,” commenting on the statement made by Igor Kirillov, the head of the Russian Armed Forces’ Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Defense (RCBD) troops, regarding Washington’s exploration of using monkeypox virus as a bioweapon.

The danger, according to the expert, lies in the fact that monkeypox can be transmitted by certain types of rodents, which can then spread it to humans. Therefore, releasing infected animals into residential areas could lead to high mortality rates among the elderly, children, and individuals with weakened immune systems, Dukhovlinov emphasized.

Kirillov stated that Russia is concerned about the increased frequency of American military biologists studying the monkeypox virus and other human pathogens.

He reminded that working with this virus is only permitted in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States and the Russian State Research Center for Virology and Biotechnology “Vector.”

Earlier, Russia called on the UN Security Council to consider the use of chemical weapons by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
