Pakistan Accuses Iran of Violating Airspace in Attack on Armed Group, Raises Concerns over Sovereignty

In a recent incident, Pakistan has accused neighboring Iran of violating its airspace and launching air attacks targeting an armed group known as Jaish al-Adl. The attack resulted in the death of two innocent children and injured three girls, according to reports. Pakistan has summoned Iran’s top diplomat in Islamabad to discuss the incident.

The airstrikes took place in the mountainous Balochistan province, along the border between the two countries. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the violation of its sovereignty and warned of potential serious consequences. The location of the incident was not specified in Pakistan’s statement, but sources claim that a mosque in Balochistan’s Panjgur district was damaged.

Iran’s state media has reported that the strikes were aimed at two bases of Jaish al-Adl and involved the use of missiles and drones. The attack has been attributed to Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard by Press TV, the English-language arm of Iranian state television. However, there has been no official comment from Tehran regarding the incident.

Jaish al-Adl, also known as the “Army of Justice,” has been responsible for launching deadly attacks against Iranian border guards since 2013, including bombings and kidnappings. The bases targeted in this attack were reportedly located in Balochistan province, according to Iran’s Nournews, which is affiliated with the country’s top security body.

The relationship between Iran and Pakistan has been strained, with both countries frequently accusing each other of allowing armed groups to operate from their respective territories. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry reiterated the need for coordinated action against terrorism, emphasizing that unilateral acts such as these airstrikes undermine bilateral trust and confidence.

This incident comes just days after Iran fired missiles into northern Syria, targeting the ISIS group, and into Iraq near the United States Consulate compound in Erbil, which Iran claimed was an Israeli “spy headquarters.” Iraq has condemned these attacks as a violation of its sovereignty and has recalled its ambassador from Tehran.

The escalation of tensions between Iran and its neighboring countries raises concerns about regional stability. The violation of Pakistan’s airspace and the resulting casualties highlight the need for dialogue and cooperation to address security challenges in the region.
