In a recent incident over Belgorod and the surrounding area, Russian air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed a total of seven unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov of the Belgorod region provided updated information on the incident through his Telegram channel.
Initially, Governor Gladkov reported the downing of two UAVs. However, he later revealed that an additional five drones were also destroyed by the air defense systems.
According to preliminary reports from the governor, there were no casualties. However, there have been damages in the residential sector of the Belgorod region, including broken windows in residential buildings, roof damage, and a fire in a utility structure. Power outage was also reported in one of the settlements. Firefighters and emergency services have been dispatched to the scene, and the extent of the damages is currently being assessed.
Governor Gladkov stated that further inspections will be conducted in the morning.
Prior to this incident, the Belgorod administration had issued a warning about the potential threat of rockets in the city, urging residents to stay indoors.
It is worth noting that Russia has recently developed a new drone suppression system.
