The Russian Ministry of Defense has reported that on January 17th, at around 2:40 am Moscow time, an attempt by Kiev to carry out a terrorist attack using the “Olha” multiple rocket launcher system and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on Russian territory was intercepted. This information was provided by the military department’s Telegram channel.
The air defense systems successfully shot down seven missiles and four Ukrainian drones. The incident took place in the sky above the Belgorod region.
Earlier, the Governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, had reported that the air defense systems had been activated over Belgorod and the Belgorod district.
Preliminary information suggests that no one was injured in the attempted attack on Russian territory. However, there are reports of damage to residential areas in the Belgorod district, including shattered windows and roofs of residential buildings, as well as a fire in an outbuilding. Power outage was also reported in one of the settlements.
Fire brigades and emergency services have been dispatched to the scene. Gladkov added that a new inspection will be conducted in the morning.
