A 10-year-old boy from Maryland narrowly escaped a potentially fatal shark attack while participating in an expedition inside a shark tank at a local resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. The incident occurred at approximately 4 p.m. EST and left the young explorer with a bite on his right leg. The Royal Bahamas Police Force stated that the boy was immediately taken to the hospital and is currently in stable condition.

This incident follows a similar tragedy that took place just a month ago when a Massachusetts woman lost her life to a shark while on vacation in the Bahamas. 44-year-old Lauren Erickson Van Wart was paddleboarding with a male relative near New Providence Island when she was attacked.
In response to the recent incidents, experts have highlighted the presence of 30 to 40 shark species in the Bahamas, with the Caribbean reef shark, bull shark, tiger shark, and blacktip shark having the highest bite frequencies. Gavin Naylor, program director of the International Shark Attack File in Florida, explained that most shark attacks are accidental bites, often mistaking humans for other prey. However, intentional attacks do occur occasionally.
