A Temple University employee was stabbed at an intersection in Philadelphia on Tuesday morning in what school officials are describing as an “unprovoked incident” carried out by a person who “appeared to be in mental distress.” The incident occurred around 7:15 a.m. in the 1000 block of Montgomery Avenue.

Jennifer Griffin, vice president for public safety at the university, stated that Temple police promptly responded to reports of the assault. They found the employee with a single stab wound on their right arm. The worker was conscious and alert when taken to Temple Hospital for further treatment. No update on their condition has been provided at this time.

Griffin emphasized that the safety of students, faculty, and staff is the university’s top priority. She expressed gratitude for the swift response of the police officers.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene, heading east on Montgomery Avenue towards 8th Street. Temple police are currently reviewing camera footage and conducting a search in the area. A description of the suspect has been shared with the Philadelphia Police Department, who are assisting in the investigation.

Further details about the suspect’s mental distress at the time of the stabbing have not been provided. Temple University Police have urged the public to contact them at 215-204-1234 with any information regarding the incident.

As students and staff return for the spring semester, Griffin reminded them to familiarize themselves with the available safety resources provided by the university.

This incident highlights the importance of maintaining a safe environment on college campuses and the need for vigilance in ensuring the well-being of students, faculty, and staff.
