Turkish President Erdogan Discusses Counterterrorism Operations and Regional Tensions

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey will be meeting with his cabinet to discuss the situation in the Red Sea, according to sources in the Turkish government. The main focus of the meeting will be Turkey’s ongoing counterterrorism operations against the PKK terrorist organization in northern Iraq and Syria. In addition, the recent Israeli attacks on Palestine, Turkey’s diplomatic initiatives to cease fire in Gaza, and the tensions in the Red Sea will also be discussed.

The meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, January 16th.

Prior to this, the Turkish delegation had declined to participate in the World Economic Forum (WEF) set to be held in Davos, Switzerland in 2024. The reason cited for this decision was Ankara’s critical stance towards Israel’s military operation in the Gaza sector.

Earlier, the Israeli Ministry of Defense referred to Turkey as an “executive body” of the Hamas movement.
