Right-wing Groups Urge GOP Leaders to Strengthen Opposition to Biden’s Green Energy Policies

In a letter sent to Speaker Mike Johnson and Majority Leader Steve Scalise, right-wing climate and energy groups are calling on House GOP leaders to take a stronger stance against President Biden’s green energy policies. The letter, accompanied by a 13-page report, argues that the claims made by the Biden administration regarding climate science and the effects of green energy policies are incorrect and misleading.

The report highlights several concerns raised by these groups, including the failure of government industrial policy in the electric vehicle (EV) sector. They argue that EVs are becoming a case study in the failure of government intervention, citing issues such as child slave labor in the Congo and China’s involvement in sourcing key materials and parts. They also mention low consumer demand, high prices, inconvenience, poor performance, and financial losses in the auto industry as contributing factors to the failure of EVs.

Furthermore, the letter criticizes offshore wind farming as the most expensive way to generate electricity, with no guarantee of improving the weather, climate, or environment. This statement comes as the House voted to disapprove of President Biden’s EV charging station requirements, which Republican lawmakers argue would benefit Chinese manufacturers dominating the EV charger supply chain.

The signatories of the letter, including experts from the Heartland Institute, Energy & Environment Legal Institute, American Energy Institute (AEI), Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT), the International Climate Science Coalition (ICSC), and Truth in Energy and Climate, urge Speaker Johnson to go further in cracking down on Biden’s green energy agenda. They claim that the false claims used to support the Green New Deal agenda and its policy failures are jeopardizing the economy, national security, and standard of living without producing any demonstrable benefits.

As Congress addresses these vital issues in 2024 and beyond, the letter calls on GOP leaders to take note of these developments and consider alternative approaches to addressing climate change and energy policies.
