Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu Calls for Control of Gaza Border as Condition for Ending Conflict with Hamas

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that taking control of the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt is one of the necessary conditions for ending the military actions against the radical Palestinian movement Hamas in the enclave, according to TASS.

“It is clear that we will not end the war without closing this hole (on the border with Egypt), because otherwise we will destroy Hamas, we will demilitarize Gaza, and then other militants will come through this hole, new military equipment and weapons will come. Therefore, it is clear that we must close it (the border of the enclave with Egypt),” said the head of the government.

According to him, Israel is currently considering several ways to accomplish this task.

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources, that the Israeli army would conduct an operation to take control of the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.

Previously, Netanyahu stated that Israel has no intention of occupying the Gaza Strip after the end of the hostilities or displacing the civilian population of the enclave.

Earlier, Medvedev spoke about the prospect of a century-long war in the Middle East.
