Vermont State Trooper Rescues Drowning 8-Year-Old Child in Heroic Act

A Vermont state police officer, Trooper Michelle Archer, displayed incredible bravery and quick thinking as she plunged into icy waters to rescue a drowning 8-year-old child. The Vermont State Police recently released footage of the daring rescue, which took place on December 17.

The incident occurred when the 8-year-old and her sibling were playing near or on the frozen surface of a private pond. Unfortunately, the ice gave way, causing the child to fall into the freezing water. An elderly neighbor, who was unable to swim, managed to help the sibling out of the pond before Trooper Archer arrived at the scene.

Without hesitation, Trooper Archer utilized a flotation device kept in the back of her cruiser to reach the helpless girl. Plunging into the icy waters, she was able to bring the child safely onto the snowy shore. Miraculously, the child began making noises, indicating that she was still alive.

Trooper Keith Cote, another officer on the scene, took over from Trooper Archer and provided life-saving first aid to the child. Rescue teams quickly arrived and transported the child to a nearby hospital, where she made a full recovery after several days of treatment.

Trooper Archer’s selflessness and quick response earned her recognition from the Vermont State Police. Alongside Trooper Cote and the property owner who assisted in the rescue, she received the state police’s Lifesaving Award for their heroic actions.

This heartwarming story serves as a reminder of the bravery and dedication displayed by law enforcement officers like Trooper Michelle Archer. Their commitment to public safety and willingness to put their lives on the line should be commended and celebrated.
