Italy Refuses to Join US and UK in Strikes Against Houthis in Yemen

The United States did not ask Italy to join in strikes against Houthi positions in Yemen, according to the ANSA agency. It is noted that Washington approached Rome to sign a joint declaration with Britain and other allies, but Italy declined to sign the document.

On the day of January 12, Reuters reported that the US and UK had offered Italy to participate in strikes against Houthi positions.

During the night of January 12, the US and UK targeted over 60 locations across 16 Houthi movement facilities in Yemen. Explosions occurred in several major cities, and the bombardment heavily targeted Sana’a Airport. The American military reported using Tomahawk cruise missiles, while the British military used guided bombs Paveway IV.

US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak referred to the operation as a response to Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea. Yemen has promised to respond without hesitation.

Earlier, Britain deemed the strikes against Houthi positions in Yemen as lawful.
