US Navy Helicopter Crashes During Training Exercise in Southern California

A U.S. Navy MH-60R Seahawk helicopter crashed in the waters of San Diego Bay during a training exercise on Thursday night, with all six crew members surviving the incident. The crash occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. and was confirmed by Cmdr. Beth Teach of the Naval Air Force Pacific Fleet. The training exercise involved a safety boat on location, ensuring the prompt rescue and medical evaluation of the crew members. Fortunately, none of them suffered critical or life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation, and both the Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the crash site in Coronado, across an inlet from San Diego. The aircraft involved in the incident belonged to Helicopter Maritime Strike squadron 41, based at Naval Air Station North Island on the Coronado peninsula. This fleet squadron specializes in training air crews on the MH-60R Seahawk, the Navy’s primary helicopter for anti-submarine warfare and various other missions, including reconnaissance and search-and-rescue operations.

While more information is awaited, it is known that the crash site received prompt attention from authorities, ensuring the safety of the crew members and initiating the investigation process. Updates on this developing story will be provided as they become available.
