Omsktransmash Plans Enhanced Protection for Sunpeak Heavy Flame-throwing System

Omsktransmash, a Russian transport engineering plant, has announced plans to strengthen the protection of its heavy flame-throwing system, Sunpeak, against anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) and kamikaze drones. According to the company’s press service, this move aims to enhance the safety of the crew and equipment.

The new protection system for the Sunpeak, which has been patented by Omsktransmash, features vertical side skirts along the entire length of the combat vehicle’s chassis. These side skirts are equipped with built-in dynamic protection screens, secured by bolted connections.

The inventors of this technology claim that the reinforced protection will safeguard the crew, as well as the external and internal equipment of the Sunpeak, against new armor-piercing sub-caliber projectiles (APFSDS) and cumulative anti-tank weapons, such as RPGs (rocket-propelled grenades), and fragments from 152mm, 155mm artillery shells, as well as the “drone kamikaze” model.

Previously, the American magazine National Interest reported that the shockwave generated by the explosions caused by the Russian Sunpeak system is capable of annihilating enemy forces within its range and causing significant damage to buildings and vehicles.

Earlier, Sunpeak systems were responsible for destroying Ukrainian Armed Forces’ armored vehicles near Kupyansk.
