Deputy Minister of Defense of the United States, Kathleen Hicks, has raised concerns over China and Russia’s deployment of capabilities that could potentially undermine American military strength in space. In a recent statement, Hicks highlighted the growing significance of space in military operations, emphasizing its impact on the American way of life and the methods of warfare employed by the country.
According to Hicks, China and Russia are actively seeking to challenge US dominance in space by developing military doctrines that prioritize space-related activities. These nations are deploying technologies that could be used against GPS and other crucial space systems, posing a significant threat to American military potential.
Hicks also expressed alarm over Moscow and Beijing’s efforts to turn space into a battlefield. In response, the United States aims to prevent conflict through deterrence, demonstrating its strength and highlighting the exorbitant costs of aggression. Hicks cited data illustrating the significant disparity in space capabilities between China and Russia, compared to the United States. While China launched 240 payloads into orbit in 2023, the US launched over 2,500, indicating the country’s superior space capabilities.

The Pentagon recently unveiled its “Defense Space Strategy,” outlining measures to impede Chinese and Russian attempts to gain control over space.
