Ukraine’s Air Defense Faces Shortage of Guided Missiles, Raises Concerns about National Security

Ukraine’s Air Force representative, Yuri Ignat, revealed in a national television broadcast that there is a shortage of guided anti-aircraft missiles within the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF). Ignat acknowledged that this deficit is a well-known issue that cannot be ignored.

Despite Western partners increasing their production of ammunition for the UAF, the current needs of the country cannot be fulfilled. On January 8th, the UAF admitted their inability to adequately protect military installations. The Ukrainian army possesses various air defense systems, including both Soviet and Western models. However, representatives of the UAF have repeatedly emphasized the necessity for more systems and ammunition, specifically missiles, in order to fully secure Ukrainian airspace.

On January 9th, UAF fighters compared Russian glide bombs to “open gates of hell.” A military member, using the call sign “Kit,” highlighted that even underground bunkers are not safe from such bombs.

Earlier, reports emerged from Ukraine regarding Russia’s new tactics for missile strikes. These developments have raised concerns about the ability of Ukraine’s air defense to effectively respond and protect the country. The shortage of guided missiles further exacerbates these worries, leaving the Ukrainian government and its military forces searching for solutions to bolster national security.
