In a recent development, the Ministry of Defense of Russia has reported through its Telegram channel that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attempted to attack Russian territory with rockets from the RM-70 Vampire multiple rocket launcher system.
According to the statement released by the ministry, at approximately 21:30 Moscow time, air defense forces successfully destroyed 10 rocket projectiles over the Belgorod region.
Earlier, the regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov had announced that Russian air defense systems had shot down 10 aerial targets approaching Belgorod on the evening of January 8. Preliminary reports suggest that three individuals sustained fragmentation injuries during the attack.
RIA Novosti agency had previously reported that on January 7, the Ukrainian Armed Forces had launched 87 artillery strikes on populated areas in the Kherson region.
It was also reported that a Ukrainian missile, originally from the S-200 surface-to-air missile system but modified for ballistic use, was intercepted over the Belgorod region by Russian air defense units.
This incident follows an earlier incident where a Ukrainian S-200 missile was shot down by Russian air defense systems over the Belgorod region.
