Czech Republic to Reduce Military Participation in Foreign Missions

The Czech government has announced plans to decrease the involvement of its military personnel in foreign missions by 2024. Vlastimila Kiprisova, the spokesperson for the country’s General Staff, revealed this information, as reported by RIA Novosti.

Currently, Czech soldiers are participating in 14 foreign missions, including those in the Middle East and Kosovo. Additionally, the military personnel are stationed in the Mediterranean region, where they combat smugglers and prevent the transportation of illegal migrants from Africa to European countries.

The planned reduction in the number of participants in foreign missions in 2024 will primarily result in a decrease from 450 to 200 individuals in the NATO contingent in Slovakia. By the end of June this year, the command of the contingent will be handed over to the Spanish forces, according to Kiprisova.

She also mentioned that one Czech mechanized company and one logistics support unit will remain in Slovakia. Furthermore, representatives from Prague will continue working at the international headquarters in the country.

Lastly, Kiprisova emphasized that Czech instructors will actively participate in training the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) this year. The training will take place both within the country and abroad.

Earlier, concerns were raised in the Czech Republic about the decline in strength among Ukrainian and Western soldiers involved in combat operations against Russia.
