North Korea has conducted military exercises for the third consecutive day on its western coast, according to the country’s Armed Forces as reported by Yonhap agency.
The exercises took place north of Yeonpyeong Island, located in the Yellow Sea. South Korea’s army unit has responded with countermeasures, and residents have been urged to remain vigilant while outdoors. The artillery firing began at approximately 4:00 PM local time (10:00 AM Moscow time), with no projectiles from North Korea landing on the South Korean side.
On the morning of January 5, North Korea fired around 200 artillery shells towards South Korea. In response to the shelling, South Korean authorities ordered the evacuation of residents on Yeonpyeong Island. South Korean military confirmed that the shells fell into the buffer zone in the Yellow Sea, north of the actual maritime border between the two countries. In retaliation, South Korea fired approximately 400 shots.
On January 6, North Korea launched over 60 projectiles near the border with South Korea.
Earlier reports indicated that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and his daughter Kim Yo-jong visited a factory that produces mobile missile launchers for ballistic missiles.
