Israeli Fighter Jets Strike Near Lebanese Cities of Tyre and Sidon

Israeli fighter jets have carried out airstrikes in areas near the Lebanese cities of Tyre and Sidon, according to Qatar-based news channel Al Jazeera, as reported by RIA Novosti.

“The Israeli airstrikes targeted Al-Khalilah, south of the Lebanese city of Tyre… Israeli airstrikes were carried out in the territory between the two towns of Kaousariya as-Siyad and ash-Sharqiya in the southern district of Sidon,” the statement said.

On January 6, the EU’s chief diplomat, Josep Borrell, arrived in Lebanon to discuss the situation on the country’s border with Israel due to concerns of further escalation in the region.

Prior to this, Lebanon demanded that Israel refrain from violating the country’s sovereignty and withdraw its forces from its southern regions. Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati warned that further escalation on the border could trigger a regional war.

Earlier in Israel, the possible involvement of Hezbollah in the war was described as a “fatal mistake.”
