Casey Anthony’s Parents Take Lie Detector Test in New Special, Seeking to Clear Their Name

A new two-hour special titled “Casey Anthony’s Parents: The Lie Detector Test” is set to air on A&E and Lifetime, featuring an in-depth examination of the 2008 death of Caylee Anthony, the granddaughter of George and Cindy Anthony. The case gained international attention and caused a deep divide within the Anthony family. Casey Anthony, the mother of Caylee, was charged with and later acquitted of her daughter’s death in 2011.

In an effort to address lingering questions about George’s alleged involvement in Caylee’s death, George and Cindy Anthony agreed to take a polygraph test on-camera. The test was administered by retired FBI Special Agent George Olivo, who has conducted thousands of polygraphs over his 20-year career. The results of the test were not disclosed to the public.

Olivo emphasized that the Anthonys’ decision to participate in the special was not a publicity stunt but a genuine desire to clear their names, as they have been accused by their daughter of being involved in the tragedy. He explained that remaining silent would lead to accusations of guilt, while speaking up would be seen as an attempt to capitalize on the situation. The Anthonys felt they were in a lose-lose situation.

The polygraph test is expected to address sensitive topics, including allegations of molestation and George’s potential involvement in Caylee’s death or the hiding of her body. Olivo clarified that polygraph results are not admissible in court, but they can be used in pretrial negotiations or post-trial sentencing discussions.

While the upcoming special focuses on the Anthonys’ quest for exoneration, it is worth noting that Casey Anthony herself participated in a recent Peacock docuseries, “Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies.” Although Casey did not explicitly accuse her father of intentionally killing Caylee, she heavily implicated him in her disappearance.

Casey’s 2011 trial was a highly publicized event, during which she was found not guilty of murder charges but was convicted of lying to the police. The government failed to establish the cause of Caylee’s death and could not find Casey’s DNA on the duct tape allegedly used to suffocate her. Casey’s defense argued that Caylee drowned accidentally and that her death was covered up.

The upcoming special aims to provide closure to the Anthony family, regardless of the test’s outcome. It is a reminder that, despite the divisive nature of the case, they are still a family trying to heal. “Casey Anthony’s Parents: The Lie Detector Test” will air on January 4th at 9 p.m. on A&E.
