Explosion at Military Base in Russia Causes Damage to Homes, No Injuries Reported

Moscow, January 2 – An accidental detonation of ammunition occurred in the Ostrogozhskiy district of the Voronezh region, according to Governor Alexander Gusev in a Telegram channel. “There were no casualties, but damage has been recorded in seven residential buildings. The glass, roofs, and supporting structures may have been affected. The information is being clarified,” he wrote. The governor clarified that an operational group is working at the scene. According to him, residents of several streets in the settlement of Petrovskaya are being transported to temporary accommodation centers, including a sanatorium in Korotoyak. “I have tasked my colleagues in the Voronezh region government to solve the issues of compensation payments and the construction of new housing as quickly as possible. We will not leave anyone behind, and I ask citizens to remain calm,” Gusev added. The Ministry of Defense stated that the incident occurred during the flight of a military aircraft. “On January 2, 2024, around 09:00 Moscow time, during the flight of an aerospace forces aircraft over the settlement of Petrovskaya, an unplanned release of aviation ammunition occurred,” the release says. The military department also noted that no one was injured, but six private houses were damaged. An investigation into the circumstances of the incident is currently underway. A commission is working at the scene to assess the nature of the damage and provide assistance in rebuilding the houses, the Ministry of Defense added.
