Elderly Man with Dementia Brutally Beaten and Robbed in Houston Parking Lot

A 67-year-old man suffering from advanced stages of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease was viciously attacked and robbed in a Houston parking lot last week. Florentino Hurtado had been waiting in his car while his wife went into a local market on December 23. Surveillance footage captured the horrifying assault, showing Hurtado wandering aimlessly before mistakenly attempting to enter another vehicle. It was at this moment that two Black men, later identified as Trayvion Lockridge and Deroderic Stephens, approached him.

Lockridge punched Hurtado in the face, causing him to fall to the ground. He then proceeded to repeatedly strike and stomp on the defenseless victim, stealing his cell phone in the process. The entire assault lasted around two minutes, according to police. Hurtado was transported to the hospital, where it was discovered that he had suffered a traumatic brain injury, a broken facial cheekbone, multiple face lacerations, and a black eye.

Lockridge and Stephens were apprehended five days later and charged with aggravated robbery of a disabled or elderly victim. However, the judge set Lockridge’s bond at $50,000, despite the state advocating for $1 million. Hurtado’s family is seeking justice for their father, expressing their sadness and disbelief over the brutal attack.

This incident highlights the vulnerability of elderly individuals with cognitive impairments and the need for increased awareness and protection. The assailants’ actions are deeply disturbing and warrant the attention of law enforcement and the public.
