New York City Mayor Warns of Another Surge in Migrants as City Reaches Breaking Point

Former Trump senior adviser Stephen Miller and Rep. Michael Waltz, R-Fla., react to President Biden’s border crisis impacting blue sanctuary cities across America on ‘Hannity.’ New York City Mayor Eric Adams warned residents to expect another surge in migrants from Texas in the coming months even as he said the city is reaching its “breaking point.”

Despite efforts by Texas Governor Greg Abbott to force northern Democratic strongholds to deal with illegal immigration, New York City has been overwhelmed by the influx of migrants. Last week alone, the city received a record 14 buses of migrants, totaling 161,000 since the spring of 2022. Mayor Adams expressed concern that the city can no longer handle the crisis, stating, “For many months, we were able to keep the visualization of this crisis from hitting our streets, but we have reached a breaking point and can no longer do that.”

In response to the situation, liberal mayors in cities like Chicago have imposed new regulations on where and when buses can drop off migrants. However, Governor Abbott has found alternative methods, including sending migrants to these cities via plane. Renae Eze, a spokeswoman for Abbott’s office, criticized the mayors, saying, “Instead of attacking Texas’ efforts to provide relief to our overwhelmed border communities, these Democrat mayors should call on their party leader to finally do his job and secure the border—something he continues refusing to do.”

This transport program initiated by Governor Abbott has created divisions between the country’s most powerful mayors and Democratic leaders in Washington. Mayor Adams himself has been vocal about the lack of federal aid from the White House to address the city’s migrant crisis. He expressed disappointment in not having a single meeting with President Biden regarding the immigration crisis throughout 2023.

“I met with the president several times on this issue in ’21, I think early 2022, the dates get confused,” Mayor Adams said, highlighting his frustration. “It baffles me. New York City is the economic engine of the state and of the country. And I don’t have the answer.”

As New York City continues to grapple with the migrant crisis, Mayor Adams and other officials are urging the federal government to take action and provide the necessary support. The situation highlights the ongoing challenges faced by cities dealing with illegal immigration and the political divide between state and federal leaders.
