An enraged couple from North Carolina is currently being sought by police after viciously attacking a Chipotle worker over a dispute about the cost of extra chicken in their order. The incident took place on December 10 at a Chipotle location in Charlotte, North Carolina. Jamel Williams, 36, and Kayla Pyle, 34, placed an order at the restaurant, but when the 20-year-old worker informed Pyle that her request for extra protein would come at an additional cost, a heated argument ensued.
According to authorities, the worker was so upset by the altercation that she decided to end her shift early and go home. The exact details of the argument remain unclear. As the worker made her way towards the exit, Williams, who stands at 6-feet 3 inches tall and weighs 300 pounds, approached her from the opposite side and physically attacked her. He pushed her to the floor, hit her, pulled her hair, and jerked her around. Pyle joined in and also struck the victim.
Disturbing video footage of the incident was posted online, showing the Chipotle worker falling to the ground and attempting to protect herself from the assault. Customers can be heard yelling at the attackers to stop. In the video, Williams, wearing red pants, can be seen launching a massive uppercut at the worker.
Law enforcement authorities were called to the scene, but Williams and Pyle had already fled in a Dodge Charger by the time officers arrived. The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, were able to identify the suspects using witness descriptions, store video, and video footage taken by a witness. Arrest warrants have been issued for Williams on charges of assault and battery in the first degree, and for Pyle on charges of assault and battery in the second degree.
Sheriff Barry Faile condemned the attack, stating that it was completely unjustified and expressing hope for the victim’s recovery. Chipotle has not yet responded to requests for comment on the incident.
