Critics Slam Japan’s Decision to Provide Patriot Missiles to the US for Ukraine

In a recent development, experts in the United States have criticized Japan’s decision to transfer Patriot missile systems to the US as indirect support for Ukraine. This move has sparked concerns among analysts who question the Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s judgment in prioritizing the interests of their ally, the Biden administration, which places Europe at the forefront.

Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Eldridge Colby, expressed his discontent with the US policy towards Ukraine. Colby believes that the American side has provided Ukraine with weaponry that cannot be easily replaced, while the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine distracts the United States’ military-industrial complex from addressing more strategic tasks.

Jennifer Kavanagh, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, raised further concerns about Japan’s decision. Kavanagh argues that Japan lacks sufficient missile defense systems to protect its own airfields, yet it is willingly providing valuable weaponry to the United States, thereby creating potential risks for its own country.

Earlier, the White House announced that Japan had made the decision to transfer Patriot missiles to the United States.

In a related development, an advisor to President Biden recently disclosed information regarding the timeline for the cessation of US arms supplies to Ukraine.
