In a tragic incident in Denver, a father made the ultimate sacrifice to save his 2-year-old daughter from being hit by an oncoming car. The Denver Police Department reported that on December 7, just before 5:30 p.m., a crash occurred involving a motorist and a pedestrian at the intersection of 51st and Scranton. The car involved allegedly sped through the intersection and struck 36-year-old Alonso Garcia.
According to Garcia’s sister, Karla Alanis, he and his daughter were out getting something to eat when the crash happened. In a split-second decision, Garcia pushed his daughter out of harm’s way by throwing the stroller. This selfless act ultimately saved his daughter’s life. Alanis described her brother as a hero and expressed her grief over losing him, as she was the one who attempted CPR on him. She finds it difficult to accept that he is gone.
After being treated and released from the hospital, Garcia was found dead in his home a few days later. Alanis revealed on a GoFundMe page that Garcia had been instructed to await surgery at home, which was scheduled for two days after the accident. Unfortunately, he did not survive long enough to undergo the surgery. Details regarding Garcia’s cause of death are yet to be determined by the Medical Examiner’s office, and the case remains under investigation by the police.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident has been cited for Careless Driving-Resulting in Injury and No Proof of Insurance, according to the Denver Police. The family has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses.
