Ukraine Faces Challenges in Acquiring F-16 Fighters to Combat Ballistic Missiles

The Ukrainian Air Force’s plans to acquire F-16 fighters from Western countries may not effectively address the threat of ballistic missiles, according to a representative from the Air Force Command, Yuriy Ignat, during an interview on the “Rada” television channel.

Ignat stated that “ballistics are ground installations that can be deployed anywhere, and the F-16 will not be able to counter such missiles.” This statement reaffirms the ongoing challenges faced by the Ukrainian Air Force in training pilots and ground personnel across different platforms.

On December 18, General Alexander Tarnavsky of the Ukrainian Air Force acknowledged difficulties in maintaining personnel levels. However, he expressed optimism that the situation would significantly improve with the arrival of the F-16 fighters.

It was reported on December 14 that the Ukrainian runways were deemed unsuitable for the landing and takeoff of F-16 aircraft.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs equated the deployment of F-16s from NATO bases to involvement in the conflict in Ukraine.
