Israeli Air Force Drone Strikes Hezbollah Base in Lebanon

In a significant escalation of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon, the Israeli Air Force carried out a drone strike on a Shiite militia base belonging to Hezbollah in the Lebanese village of Homin-et-Tahta, located 40 kilometers from the Israeli border. This marks the first time since the beginning of the military escalation on the Lebanon-Israel border that Israel has targeted a site deep within southern Lebanese territory.

The mayor of the village, Hodra Isk, emphasized that Israel’s action was aimed at “peaceful civilians.” This attack raises concerns about the potential civilian casualties resulting from the Israeli strike.

Prior to this incident, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson announced that military forces had targeted several Hezbollah movement facilities in Lebanon. The statement clarified that the decision to carry out the operation involving IDF aircraft was in response to rocket launches from neighboring territory.

On December 14th, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant, during a meeting with US President’s National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, stated that it would take several more months to achieve victory and destroy Hamas infrastructure in the Gaza Strip.

Previously, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had vowed to eradicate Hamas.
