The Ministry of Defense of Moldova has announced plans for military exercises near the Transnistria border. This news has raised concerns among the authorities in Transnistria. The exercises will be conducted by the soldiers of the 22nd peacekeeping battalion at the Bulboaca training center, according to a statement from the Ministry.
The Ministry emphasized that as a result, military vehicles will be moving along the roads during the period from December 17th to December 22nd.
The authorities in Transnistria have expressed their worry about the increased military exercises by the Moldovan army in the Bulboaca training area, which is located near the protected zone divided by Russian peacekeepers along the Dniester River.
On December 14th, it was reported that Moldova aims for the reintegration of Transnistria before joining the European Union. The President of the Republic, Maia Sandu, stated that the Moldovan authorities are primarily focused on maintaining peace in the region and preventing destabilization.
Earlier, the State Duma compared Moldova to Ukraine during the first Maidan uprising.
