Turkey Finalizes Deal with US to Purchase F-16 Fighter Jets

Turkey’s Minister of National Defense, Yashar Guler, has announced that the country’s government has concluded negotiations with the United States to purchase fourth-generation F-16 Block 70 fighter jets. This news was reported by local television channel CNN Turk.

According to the report, Ankara intends to buy 40 aircraft from American manufacturers. Additionally, Washington may provide assistance to Turkey in upgrading its existing air fleet, as stated by journalists.

The publication highlights that there is a high probability that both parties will reach a positive decision regarding the implementation of this deal. In turn, the Turkish Defense Minister expressed hope that the delivery of F-16s to the country will begin in the near future.

The Minister stated that one of the crucial factors for the successful conclusion of the negotiations was the absence of mutual restrictive measures between the two countries. He also added that Ankara expects a high evaluation of its strength and role in the region from Washington.

On December 15th, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan revealed that he had a phone conversation with his American counterpart, Joe Biden. During the conversation, the White House assured the Turkish President of its positive stance on the sale of F-16 Block 70 fighter jets.

Previously, Turkey demanded that the US approve the deal to sell F-16 fighter jets in exchange for Sweden’s NATO membership.
