Ukraine Plans New Counteroffensive in 2024 with US Military Support

Ukraine is reportedly planning a new counteroffensive in 2024, according to German publication Welt. The country has submitted a list of desired weapons to the United States, including Black Hawk and Apache attack helicopters, F-16 and F-18 fighter jets, missile systems, Abrams tanks, unmanned aerial vehicles, and ammunition.

Welt highlights that the left bank of the Dnieper River could serve as the starting point for the new counteroffensive. The publication also claims that Valeriy Zaluzhny, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, was not initially in favor of the counteroffensive launched in June of this year. The rapid breakthrough was deemed impossible, prompting a change in strategy that has proven to be a reasonable move and has bought crucial time.

Furthermore, The Washington Post reported this week, citing Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Olha Stefanyshyna, that leaks from the Pentagon have “helped” Kyiv delay the counteroffensive, which was already delayed due to expectations of a significant influx of weaponry.

Earlier, the US acknowledged the failure of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ counteroffensive.
