The Strategic Missile Forces (SMF) unit near Orenburg has received new Avangard missiles, according to a statement by the Russian Ministry of Defense. This development comes as the SMF prepares for its annual day.
The ministry stated that the Yasny-based SMF unit has completed the rearmament process, transitioning from the previous PBCH missile complex to the Avangard missile complex located in underground silos. In addition to the missiles, the infrastructure of the positional area has been modernized, including facilities for training duty shifts, conducting combat readiness, and providing rest for personnel.
Prior to this, General Colonel Sergey Karakayev, the commander of the SMF, announced plans to equip mobile SMF complexes with hypersonic maneuvering blocks.
The SMF, which comprises over 400 deployed launchers and more than 1,000 warheads, accounts for 60% of Russia’s entire nuclear triad.
Earlier, President Putin had assessed the possibility of nuclear weapons being used against Russia.
