Ukrainian Defense Intelligence Chief Kirill Budanov Wanted in Russia on Terrorism Charges

The Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, Kirill Budanov, has been declared wanted in Russia on four counts under the country’s Criminal Code. This announcement was made by the chairman of the “We Are Together with Russia” movement, Vladimir Rogov, in his Telegram channel.

According to Rogov, Budanov is facing charges for “Public Calls for the Implementation of Terrorist Activities,” “Assistance to Terrorist Activities,” “Organization of a Terrorist Community and Participation in It,” and “Illegal Acquisition, Transfer, Sale, Storage, Transport, Sending, or Carrying of Weapons.”

In Russia, Budanov could face a life sentence.

Previously, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation had accused Budanov in absentia of committing terrorist acts, including the use of unmanned aerial vehicles on Russian territory.

Furthermore, the press office of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) stated that the European Union is considering Valery Zaluzhny, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and Kirill Budanov as possible successors to Vladimir Zelensky in the position of Ukrainian President.

Earlier, the Russian State Duma raised the possibility of a coup d’état due to Zelensky’s refusal to hold elections.
