Progress Continues on Draft Law Regarding the Status of Private Military Companies in Russia

The Chairman of the Defense Committee of the State Duma, Andrey Krasov, has announced that work on a draft law regarding the status of private military companies (PMCs) is ongoing, according to TASS.

“This is a complex draft law that requires a lot of coordination, so everything is proceeding as planned,” he noted.

According to the deputy, this draft law pertains to the state and its security, so it must not be approached hastily.

On December 14th, Sergey Sobolev, a private contractor of a special military operation from the Novosibirsk region, who had signed a contract with a PMC but did not receive the status of a war veteran, told “Gazeta.Ru” that he hopes to receive his certification soon. During a direct line with Vladimir Putin, Sobolev informed the president that he had sought veteran status but was unable to obtain it from any authority. The participant of the special military operation believes that the situation will soon change.

Previously, Putin had mentioned that he knew people who had served in PMCs.
