Michigan Democratic voters are showing a concerning decline in enthusiasm for President Biden, according to a new poll conducted by the Washington Post-Monmouth. The survey reveals that only 27% of Democrats in the Great Lake State are “enthusiastic” about Biden as their party’s presidential nominee. Meanwhile, approximately 51% express satisfaction with him, while 19% say they would be “dissatisfied” or “upset.”
In stark contrast, the poll shows that 45% of Michigan Republicans are “enthusiastic” about former President Trump as their party’s nominee, with 31% expressing satisfaction with him. However, 21% of Republicans in the state indicate they would be “unsatisfied” or “upset” if Trump were to lead the party into the 2024 election.
The dissatisfaction with Biden is not limited to Michigan alone. The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research conducted a national poll and found that a significant percentage of Americans would feel dissatisfied with a Biden-Trump rematch in 2024. Approximately 56% of U.S. adults express dissatisfaction with Biden as the Democratic nominee, while 58% would feel dissatisfied with Trump representing the GOP.
The poll also reveals that 42% of the respondents view Biden favorably, compared to 36% for Trump. It is important to note that the Post-Monmouth poll surveyed 1,066 potential voters in Michigan, with a margin of error of +/-4.4%. The Associated Press-NORC poll, which surveyed 1,074 US adults, was conducted between Nov. 30 and Dec. 4, reporting a margin of error of +/-4%.
These findings highlight the challenges faced by President Biden in maintaining support among Democratic voters, not only in Michigan but across the country. As the 2024 campaign trail heats up, it remains to be seen how these sentiments will impact the political landscape.
