A heart-wrenching incident has occurred in Silverhill, Alabama, where a young, deaf dog named Rags was stolen from his home. The incident, which was caught on video, has sparked an investigation by the local police department. The owner of Rags, Olivia Gardner, shared the footage from her doorbell camera, revealing the shocking series of events that unfolded in less than 15 seconds.
Gardner was not at home when the theft took place and initially believed that Rags had managed to escape from the fence. However, after reviewing the doorbell footage, she discovered the disturbing truth. The video shows an individual approaching her house, entering it, and swiftly making off with Rags. Heartbreakingly, the dog can be seen turning back towards his home multiple times before being taken away.
Rags, an Old English Sheepdog, is approximately one year and seven to eight months old. Gardner had rescued him when he was a year old, and he is trained to communicate through hand signals due to his deafness. The distinctive features of Rags include his brown eyes, pink and black nose, and the presence of a tail, which is uncommon for his breed. He is also neutered.
Fortunately, Rags is microchipped, and the company responsible for programming the chip has been notified of his disappearance. Gardner had equipped him with a collar and an AirTag, but both were discovered near an intersection in the town. Despite the setback, Gardner remains hopeful for Rags’ safe return.
The Silverhill Police Department is actively working to identify the person seen in the video and their vehicle. Although the suspect was masked and covered from head to toe, a tattoo on their left wrist may aid in their identification. In an effort to expedite the search, Gardner is offering a cash reward for any information leading to the safe return of Rags.
