Russian Military Court Finds Soldier Guilty of Desertion and Theft

The South Sakhalin Garrison Military Court has recently pronounced a Russian serviceman guilty of two criminal charges related to desertion and theft. This verdict was reported by TASS.

According to the investigation, the defendant evaded military service during the mobilization in the autumn of 2022. In October of that year, he left his military unit in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and subsequently found employment in the Nogliki district in the north of Sakhalin. However, in September 2023, the man decided to replace his passport. He was apprehended by the police.

As a result, the court found the man guilty of desertion and theft, sentencing him to 13 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony.

Prior to this incident, the Federal Security Service (FSB) detained an engineer from a defense enterprise in Rostov-on-Don on suspicion of treason. According to the Russian Federal Security Service, the resident of Rostov collaborated with Kiev, providing information about Russian air defense systems and personnel of the Armed Forces. Earlier in Yaroslavl, a man was arrested for delivering a speech by Hitler at a train station.
