German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has announced that the second Patriot air defense system, which Germany has transferred to Ukraine, will be put into operation by the end of 2023. This development was reported by RIA Novosti.
Scholz stated, “The second Patriot air defense system from Germany will be put into operation in Ukraine this year.”
Previously, it was reported that the German government announced a new package of military assistance to Ukraine, which includes 28 Leopard tanks. According to the list, the German authorities will provide Kiev with 10 Leopard 1A5 tanks, 18 Leopard 2A6 tanks, eight Bandvagn 206 tracked vehicles, 40 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) Marder, 138 machine guns for Leopard 2 tanks and Marder IFVs, 54 armored personnel carriers (APCs) M113, and 50 MRAP armored vehicles. In addition, Berlin will send spare parts and ammunition for the aforementioned machines from Bundeswehr warehouses to Ukraine.
According to the information from the Bundeswehr, the package of military assistance to Ukraine will include air defense systems. These will consist of 40 self-propelled anti-aircraft guns (SPAAGs) Gepard, TRML radars, two IRIS-T air defense systems, and a Patriot surface-to-air missile system. It is noted that the list also includes defense assistance packages for artillery and logistics.
