Russia Developing Lightweight Sniper and Assault Rifle with Interchangeable Calibers

In a new development from Russia, Lobaev Arms, the founder of the company, Vladislav Lobaev, has announced the creation of a lightweight sniper and assault rifle with interchangeable calibers. The first prototypes of this innovative weapon are expected to be ready by February-March of next year, according to reports from RIA Novosti.

This new rifle is intended to replace the existing “Smerch” and “Schettsik” models. Lobaev pointed out that the main difference between the new rifle and its predecessors lies in its compact size and weight, resembling that of an automatic rifle. It will weigh approximately 3.6 kg. Another significant feature of this weapon is its ability to switch between being an automatic rifle and a sniper rifle by simply changing the barrel.

The production of all the rifle’s components will take place at Lobaev Arms. Lobaev also mentioned that the new rifle will be equipped with more reliable mechanisms, similar to those found in HK 417 and FN firearms, utilizing a gas piston system.

According to Lobaev, the Russian rifle will be one kilogram lighter than its foreign counterparts while maintaining its accuracy and precision.

The expected release of the first batches for testing and evaluation is scheduled for February-March 2024, as stated by the founder of the company.

On December 3rd, it was reported that the OSV-96 rifle received new ammunition capable of penetrating NATO armored vehicles.

Earlier, the commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces stated that Russia has an advantage in using FPV drones.
