Coyote Attacks in Phoenix Prompt Search for Responsible Animals

A recent string of coyote attacks in Phoenix has left three individuals, including a 4-year-old child, with bite injuries. As a result, Arizona wildlife officials are actively searching for the coyote or coyotes responsible for the incidents. The attacks occurred in an area just east of I-17 and Happy Valley Road in Phoenix, with two incidents happening on Saturday and another on Monday, according to the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AGFD).

During the first coyote attack, a 4-year-old child was bitten on the lower leg while walking with family members. Later that same day, a man who was jogging in the same area also suffered a coyote bite. AGFD officers were able to capture one coyote from the area on Sunday evening, but on Monday morning, another man was bitten on the heel just south of Happy Valley Road near I-17.

All three bite victims have received medical treatment and rabies shots. Wildlife officers are continuing their search for the responsible coyotes, and notices have been posted in the surrounding neighborhoods to alert residents of the attacks. In the meantime, residents are being advised to remain vigilant and keep wildlife at a safe distance.

Coyote attacks on humans, although rare, can be serious, as emphasized by wildlife officials. Over the past 26 years, a total of 28 coyote attacks on people have been reported in the Phoenix metropolitan area. To assist in their search efforts, authorities have urged the public to report any new coyote sightings in the specified area to the Arizona Game and Fish Department. In case of emergencies, individuals are instructed to call 911.

These recent attacks serve as a reminder of the potential dangers posed by wildlife encounters and the importance of remaining cautious and informed.
