A Florida woman has been arrested after fabricating a story about her children’s Christmas presents being stolen, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Shana Hudson, 39, called deputies on November 19 to report a residential burglary in Lehigh Acres, Florida, claiming that several items, including Christmas presents for her children, had been stolen. However, further investigation by detectives revealed that Hudson had lied about the burglary.
Detectives, who had initially coordinated a donation from the Lehigh Acres American Legion and the sheriff’s office’s Shop With a Cop program to surprise the family with new presents, received a tip through Crime Stoppers that led them to evidence showing that the reported stolen items were actually hidden at a family member’s home. The detectives recovered the items and exposed Hudson’s deception.
Sheriff Carmine Marceno condemned Hudson’s actions, stating, “This pathetic behavior is unacceptable, especially given the circumstances this holiday season. This woman took advantage of the system and is now paying the price for her selfish choices.” Hudson has been charged with fraud-false report to law enforcement.
