Ukraine’s Armed Forces Struggle with FPV Drones Due to Height Variations and Electronic Warfare

Around 90% of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ FPV (first-person view) drones are failing to reach their targets in the Artemivsk area due to height variations and the effectiveness of electronic warfare (EW) measures. This was revealed by the commander of the anti-drone unit, codenamed “Turk,” belonging to the “Sever V” brigade of the volunteer assault corps.

“Out of a hundred drones, maybe around 10 can reach their target,” he said.

According to the commander, this is due to several factors, one of which is the difference in altitude.

“If the operator launches the drone from a low altitude and there is a higher elevation ahead, the communication will be lost unless a relay is placed on top. They cannot reach their targets due to our EW measures and the height differences,” explained Turk.

He pointed out that Ukrainian military personnel in the Artemivsk sector actively use both kamikaze quadcopters and reconnaissance quadcopters, from which ammunition is dropped. Additionally, Turk noted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have learned to use FPV drones to drop ammunition and retrieve them, which was not possible before.

The commander emphasized that such drones are significantly cheaper than the traditional ones used for ammunition drops.

Previously, it was reported that Russian forces had started using kamikaze drones called “Privet-82” in the special military operation zone.

Earlier, Russia developed a new drone suppression system.
