Israeli Defense Forces Destroy Historic Mosque in Gaza, Hamas Claims

In a recent development, the radical Islamist movement Hamas has accused the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) of demolishing the Great Mosque in the Gaza Strip. According to Al Ghad channel, Hamas alleges that the mosque was destroyed as a result of an Israeli airstrike.

Reuters agency reports that Hamas-affiliated media outlets have also published photographs of the damaged mosque. The images reveal destroyed walls, a collapsed section of the mosque’s roof, and a crack in the minaret’s foundation.

Unfortunately, the exact date of the photographs could not be determined.

The Great Mosque of Omar, constructed in the 5th century, is located in the old quarter of Gaza City. It is the oldest and largest mosque in the enclave, situated on the site of an ancient Christian temple that was rebuilt following the Arab conquest.

Earlier, during a briefing, IDF spokesperson Daniel Haggari stated that supporters of the Palestinian radical movement Hamas were surrendering as prisoners.

Israel’s Defense Minister, Yoav Galant, previously announced that following a brief ceasefire, the operation in Gaza would continue for at least two more months.
